Since we see ourselves every day we are not cognitive of the changes that occur over time.  When we see our image in a photograph or on video the natural reaction is denial.  Other people, however, see us with a different perspective and notice subtle nuances in our appearance.  Many times we suddenly discover something "new" about our personality or features and we mention it to a loved one and their response is "That's always been there".  We make a great deal of assumptions about our lives but seldom take a step back and look at what others see.   One of my favorite sayings is "I know that like the back of my hand... hey, when did that get there?"
