We have all seen these people standing on the corner.  They stand out there for hours shaking their signs and sometimes causing distractions to drivers.  They are a classic example of direct advertising. Companies try just about everything to get our business.  I don't have a problem with that because they are paying capable, eager, tenacious, "sign shakers" somewhere around $12 an hour.  That's good ole' American entrepreneurship at its basic level.  With the recession taking a huge chunk of retail sales away from businesses they are resorting to just about anything to get noticed.  You will see them come out in droves during the lunch time hour.  Near our house, Stacie and I are entertained by the big yellow chicken from one of the wing establishments.  Some drivers are annoyed by the silent, placard flipping, human billboards on the side of the street.  I would much rather see them with a company logo in their hand than a plain, hand-written cardboard sign begging for money.  At least they are contributing to society in an honest and ambitious manner.  Would you put your pride aside to earn an honest day's wage?

  2. I totally agree with you about the sign being better than a homeless sign! I hate seeing people on the road with those. One of my friends the other day said that she keeps a stash of MREs in her car so she has something other than money to give them. I love that idea!

  3. There were many days when I was sitting at a desk in an office with no windows looking at numbers all day long thinking man, if I could only be one of those people dressed up in a chicken outfit acting crazy and having fun and being outside...and getting paid to do it.
