We put up fences for many reasons.  Fences are built to keep people out.  Fences are built to keep people in.  Fences are built for privacy.  Fences are built for safety.  Fences are built for security.  Sometimes people put up fences without a physical barrier.  They withdraw because they are shy,  uncomfortable in crowds, or they just prefer solitude.  Occassionally people put up fences because they hold a grudge and are not willing to allow any close to them.  Some fences are made to allow the people on the outside to just peer over the top and get a glimpse of what's inside.  How many times have the fences we built with our attitudes and personalities kept others from peering inside who we are?  Our society has created boundaries that group us by ethnicity, race, religion, and ideals.  Or is that just human nature?  Ever since we were young we were able to find things that were not like the others.  We easily identify things about others that are different from us and we learn about them.  We also make judgements and assumptions.  How will you help your neighbor over your fence?

  2. You are so right about putting up fences. Some can create hard feelings and some good feelings. I pray my fences have not hurt anyone.
